WASHINGTON — A new Public Policy Polling survey of Minnesota Democratic primary voters finds Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan not just leading the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, but pulling away. Lt. Governor Flanagan leads Angie Craig 46% to 32% – a 14-point advantage that has doubled from the seven-point lead she held just one month ago.
With just two weeks left until the August 11 primary, Lt. Governor Flanagan holds a +32 net favorable rating, even after months of sustained negative spending against her. She’s achieved this while being outspent by Angie Craig’s dark money groups, backed by the cryptocurrency industry and a data center billionaire, who have spent $20 million in an attempt to buy the election for her.
Craig’s floundering numbers reflect an electorate that has hardened against Donald Trump’s chaos and violence: 94% of likely Democratic primary voters disapprove of Trump. Craig is the only Minnesota Democrat who voted for Trump’s signature immigration bill, boasted about voting with Republican Tom Emmer nearly half the time, and voted to thank Trump’s ICE.
“Angie Craig is trying her best to gaslight Minnesota voters into believing her lies about her own voting record, but they aren’t buying it, no matter what her Trump donors and crypto billionaire dark money backers are saying,” said Kevin Holst, Executive Director of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association. “They’ve thrown $20 million at defeating Peggy Flanagan, and all they’ve done is double her lead over Angie Craig. Craig’s outside groups are outspending everyone on the airwaves and still losing ground, because Minnesota Democrats know exactly who Peggy Flanagan is: a champion for working families who will always stand up to Trump. Angie Craig has spent this campaign trying to outrun her own voting record, the same record she once bragged put her in line with Republican Whip Tom Emmer half the time. Minnesota caught up to her a long time ago.”

Governor Flanagan’s support also runs deep in the U.S. Senate Democratic caucus, including Senators Tina Smith, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Ed Markey, Chris Murphy, Chris Van Hollen, Jeff Merkley, and Martin Heinrich, alongside Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Betty McCollum, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and more. As Lt. Governor, Flanagan helped deliver paid family and medical leave, free school meals for Minnesota kids, and a higher minimum wage.
