Statement from DLGA Chair Peggy Flanagan on Sen. Rachel Hunt’s Victory in North Carolina’s Lt. Governor Primary Election

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association Chair and Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan shared the following statement on State Senator Rachel Hunt’s victory in North Carolina’s primary election for Lieutenant Governor:

“Congratulations to Senator Rachel Hunt on her victory in tonight’s primary in North Carolina. In Senator Hunt, North Carolinians have a strong leader with a record of service who will fight to protect women’s rights, strengthen our public schools, and expand access to affordable health care. The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association is proud to endorse Sen. Hunt and support her in the general election.

“While Rachel is the proven leader North Carolinians need with a deep commitment to the state, the Republican field has made clear that they are pushing the same MAGA extreme, anti-choice agenda that we’ve seen voters across the country continue to reject time and again. As the GOP continues to push this dangerous and unpopular agenda, Rachel will continue to keep standing up to these attacks and remain committed to protecting and strengthening North Carolina’s fundamental freedoms.

“By nominating Rachel as Lt. Governor nominee, Democrats are poised for strong victory in North Carolina up and down the ticket. No matter which candidate ekes out of this messy primary, Rachel Hunt is ready to beat them in November.”
