Tonight, Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association Chair and Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan shared the following statement on Hal Weatherman’s victory tonight in the Republican runoff, as he faces State Senator Rachel Hunt in November:
“Rachel Hunt is the proven leader North Carolinians need with a deep commitment to the state, who will fight to protect women’s rights, strengthen our public schools, and expand access to affordable health care.
“Tonight, North Carolinians were reminded that Hal Weatherman will bring nothing but the same type of anti-abortion, MAGA extremism that Mark Robinson has brought to the lieutenant governor’s office. Over the course of his career, Hal Weatherman has repeatedly said he wants to ban abortion, defund public education and opposes Medicaid Expansion. He makes a great ally and partner for Mark Robinson, who is leading the anti-abortion charge in North Carolina.
“As Weatherman continues to push this dangerous and unpopular agenda, Rachel will continue to keep standing up to these attacks and remains committed to protecting and strengthening North Carolina’s fundamental freedoms. The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association was proud to endorse Sen. Hunt upon securing the nomination in March, and we look forward to continuing to support her in the general election.”
