In A Three Way Race, Stratton Wins Democratic Primary by Double Digits
WASHINGTON – A new polling memo from the Democratic Lt. Governors Association (DLGA) highlights Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton’s strong position in the Democratic Senate primary following Lauren Underwood’s decision to not pursue a run for US Senate. Stratton emerges as the clear second choice among Underwood’s prospective supporters, giving her a clear lead over Raja Krishnamoorthi.
From the DLGA poll released earlier this month, simulated results of a three-way race that reallocates second-choice preferences of prospective Underwood voters conclude:
- Now that Congresswoman Underwood has decided not to run, it is important to note that Lt. Governor Stratton is the clear second choice of those who would have supported Underwood. The informed 3-way matchup sees Stratton jump up to 33%, Krishnamoorthi move to 20%, and Kelly go to 11%
“With the field now set, the data clearly shows that Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton is in the strongest position of any candidate to win the Democratic primary,” said DLGA Executive Director Kevin Holst. “Lt. Governor Stratton has been a strong voice for working families, bringing lived experience to her leadership. As a standout on the Democratic bench, she is uniquely positioned to continue serving Illinois, and as the data shows, voters are ready to give her their vote of confidence to serve as Illinois’ next US Senator.”

Public Policy Polling surveyed: 674 likely Democratic primary voters from April 29-30, 2025. The margin of error is +/- 3.8%. 57% of the interviews for the survey were conducted by text and 43% by landline.
The three-way informed vote was calculated by asking respondents who selected Lauren Underwood as their first choice in an informed vote to indicate their second-choice preference. Of these respondents, 39% chose Juliana Stratton, 14% Raja Krishnamoorthi, 12% Robin Kelly, and 34% were undecided.
