MA Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll Elected DLGA Vice Chair, Outgoing Chair and MN Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to Serve on Executive Committee Alongside IL Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton
WASHINGTON – Today, the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) voted to elect Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis as Chair of the DLGA. Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll was elected Vice Chair. Outgoing DLGA Chair and Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan will continue to serve on the executive committee alongside Illinois Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton.
“Our Democratic Lt. Governors and the work we do in our states couldn’t be more critical coming out of this year’s election cycle, which is why I am excited to serve as the next Chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association,” said DLGA Chair Lt. Governor Austin Davis. “Democratic Lt. Governors serve as the second in command for more than half the country’s population. We serve as a partner to the governor, a link to our legislatures, and a channel to our communities, and delivering for our constituents needs to be the number one priority in order to rebuild the Democratic brand. Representation in our party is powerful, but when it comes to lived experiences, Democratic Lt. Governors truly are representative of the country.”
“The next few months that lie ahead for the Party will take a lot of work to regain voters’ trust and lay out an agenda that speaks directly to the country. We will continue to deliver results for working Americans and will work as a backstop to the Trump administration’s extreme agenda.”
“It has been an honor to serve as Chair of the DLGA, and I’m proud of the work we have accomplished over the last year, including flipping one of only two statewide red to blue flips in the country in Lt. Governor-elect Rachel Hunt’s race in North Carolina and growing the DLGA’s fundraising by 269%,” said outgoing Chair Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan. “Across the country, Democratic Lt. Governors will continue to step up to the plate to create economic opportunity and stand up for fundamental freedoms like health care and reproductive rights. I am hopeful for our Party’s future and for Austin Davis to lead the DLGA in this next chapter.”
“I am excited to be a part of the DLGA’s work to elect public servants who are committed to delivering for their constituents and creating ladders of opportunity for every American,” said DLGA Vice Chair Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll. “My fellow Lt. Governors across the country are leading as powerful voices on policy and translating that work into real solutions on the ground. We have a tremendous opportunity at the DLGA to invest and build up the next generation of leaders in our party, and I am thrilled to be a part of paving the way for a successful path forward.”
“As the Democratic Party faces a crossroads, our Democratic Lt. Governors will continue standing up for fundamental freedoms and working to make life better for working families,” said DLGA Executive Committee Member Juliana Stratton. “That starts with delivering on real results for our constituents at home and offering forward-looking solutions that will create success for our Party and the next generation of Lt. Governors and leaders within our party.”
The DLGA’s executive committee will be committed to helping Democrats win in the elections for Lt. Governor of Virginia and New Jersey in 2025. The DLGA is the only organization solely focused on electing Democratic Lt. Governors and candidates each year. The DLGA is the most diverse party committee in the nation; 80 percent of Democratic Lt. Governors are people of color or women.
About Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis
Lt. Gov. Austin A. Davis is the youngest lieutenant governor in the country and the first Black lieutenant governor in Commonwealth history. Austin is determined to motivate a new generation of public servants to break even more barriers.
Austin’s path to the second-highest office in the Commonwealth started in McKeesport, a former steel town in western Pennsylvania. Growing up, he watched his mom—a hairdresser for more than 40 years—juggle raising a family with putting food on the table, and he watched his dad work hard as a union bus driver.
As lieutenant governor, Austin presides over the Pennsylvania Senate, chairs the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons, leads the Local Government Advisory Committee and serves on the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Council. Gov. Josh Shapiro has also appointed Austin to chair the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
While serving as lieutenant governor, Austin is focused on combating the epidemic of gun violence, supporting small and minority-owned businesses, advocating for working-class Pennsylvanians and being a champion for communities that feel like they’ve been left behind.
Austin currently resides in Allegheny County with his wife, Blayre Holmes Davis, and daughter, Harper.
