Flanagan’s Advantage Triples to 30 Points When Voters Learn More About Candidate Records
WASHINGTON, DC – A new poll from Public Policy Polling shows Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan with a commanding and growing lead over Congresswoman Angie Craig in the Minnesota Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. The more voters learn, the wider that lead becomes.
Flanagan leads 44-33 on the initial ballot test. But after voters hear about the candidates’ records, her advantage nearly triples: Flanagan surges to 55% support while Craig falls to 25%, a 30-point margin that reflects the fundamental contrast at the heart of this race.
That contrast is sharpest on immigration. Craig was the only Democrat in Minnesota’s congressional delegation to vote for the Laken Riley Act, which stripped due process from migrants and allowed for their indefinite detention, and her vote earned her a personal thank-you from Republican Whip Tom Emmer. She was also the only Minnesota Democrat to vote for a resolution thanking ICE. Two-thirds of Democratic primary voters (67%) call Craig’s record on ICE a convincing reason to vote against her, including 42% who say it is “very convincing.”
Flanagan, meanwhile, enters the summer as the clear choice for voters who want an uncompromising fighter. She holds a 57-9 favorable rating, is the only candidate in the race refusing corporate PAC money, and has earned endorsements from Senators Tina Smith and Elizabeth Warren, both of whom are viewed favorably by more than four-in-five Minnesota Democratic primary voters.
“This poll is a clear sign that Peggy Flanagan is the strongest Democrat in the race to take the fight to Donald Trump and deliver for working families in the U.S. Senate,” said DLGA Executive Director Kevin Holst. “As Lt. Governor, Peggy has stood up to Trump’s violent ICE raids, refused corporate PAC money, and built the kind of broad, statewide coalition that wins tough races. Angie Craig has spent hers cutting deals with House Republicans, selling out to corporate special interests, and earning thank-yous from Republican leadership for her support for Trump’s dangerous immigration agenda. The more Minnesota Democrats learn about the choice in this race, the wider Lt. Governor Flanagan’s lead grows.”
