WASHINGTON – Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) Chair Kyle Evans Gay released the following statement congratulating Lt. Governor Sabina Matos on her victory in the Democratic primary for Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor:
“Congratulations to Lt. Governor Sabina Matos on winning tonight’s Democratic primary. Sabina’s story – immigrating from the Dominican Republic, working her way through Rhode Island College, and rising from the Providence City Council to become the first Afro-Latina statewide officeholder in Rhode Island history – is the story of the state she serves.”
“Since taking office, Lt. Governor Matos has taken on grocery chains and surveillance pricing, fought for affordable housing, and chaired the councils that look out for seniors, small businesses, and families in crisis. While Donald Trump works to rip away health care, attack reproductive freedom, and send costs soaring, Republican John Loughlin would be a rubber stamp for that agenda in Rhode Island. Sabina Matos will be the firewall Rhode Islanders need. The DLGA is proud to back Sabina Matos as she advances to November.”
