DLGA statement on the appointment of Sabina Matos as Rhode Island’s new Lieutenant Governor

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association released the following statement regarding the announcement of Sabina Matos as Rhode Island’s next Lieutenant Governor.

“Congratulations to Sabina Matos for stepping up for the people of Rhode Island alongside Governor Dan McKee. Matos’ record of service and results in Providence have prepared her to deliver for every community in the state. Her personal journey will enable Rhode Islanders from all walks of life to see themselves and their potential in her historic role as the first Latina and second woman to serve as Lieutenant Governor,” said DLGA Chair Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Michigan.

DLGA Executive Director Roshan Patel added, “We are excited to have Sabina Matos join the ranks of America’s Democratic Lt. Governors, the most diverse group of elected officials in the country. She has done great work for the people of Providence and her background and experience will make her a great Lt. Governor.”

The DLGA is an independent voluntary political organization that provides resources and policy assistance to candidates in their campaigns for Lieutenant Governor. The DLGA is proud to support current Democratic Lieutenant Governors in 22 states and 3 U.S. territories.
