Brian Benjamin to serve as New York’s next Lieutenant Governor

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association released the following statement regarding the appointment of State Senator Brian Benjamin as New York’s next Lieutenant Governor.

“The DLGA welcomes and congratulates Senator Brian Benjamin as he joins Governor Kathy Hochul to usher in a new era of leadership and service to the state of New York. Senator Benjamin’s record of courageous legislative and community advocacy, particularly in the realms of criminal justice reform and creating equitable access to opportunity, will serve Governor Hochul and the people of New York well as the state moves through the pandemic and beyond,” said DLGA Chair and Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II.

DLGA Executive Director Roshan Patel added, “Senator Benjamin will make a great Second-in- Command and partner to Governor Hochul, who herself understands and values the role of Lt. Governor. Together, they will lead New York out of this pandemic, keep New Yorkers safe and lead an economy that will be fair and equitable to all.”

The DLGA is an independent voluntary political organization that provides resources and policy assistance to candidates in their campaigns for Lieutenant Governor. The DLGA is proud to support current Democratic Lieutenant Governors in 22 states and 3 U.S. territories.
