Delaware Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long elected Chair, two new members of Executive Committee
WASHINGTON — The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) announced today that Delaware Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long will serve as the organization’s Chair in 2022.
“I want to thank all of my colleagues for putting their trust in me as we head into such an important year,” Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long said. “With 32 Lt. Governors’ races, 12 being incumbents, we are going to work hard to make sure our campaigns have the resources needed to be successful next November. We also look forward to growing our ranks and are excited to flip as many seats red to blue, as possible.”
Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II just completed his term as Chair.
“It has been an honor serving as Chair of the DLGA. The organization continues to grow and build out an apparatus that is focused on seeing Lt. Governors and candidates for Lt. Governor be successful,” said outgoing DLGA Chair Lt. Governor Gilchrist. “I want to congratulate Lt. Governor Hall-Long on her election as the next Chair of the DLGA, and I look forward to continuing to serve on the Executive Committee and be a resource to her and all of my colleagues.”
The DLGA also welcomed two new members to its Executive Committee: Guam Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio and Secretary of State Shemia Fagan.
“I want to thank my colleagues for tapping me to serve at such a critical juncture in our Nation’s history. Now more than ever, we must work hard to elect Democrats that are focused on our recovery and committed to improving the quality of life for all people,” said Guam Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio.
“As Oregon’s Second-in-Command, the DLGA served an important role in my race in 2018. I will work hard to support Chairwoman Hall-Long in her role and all of our colleagues on the ballot in 2022. A big thank you to my colleagues for putting their trust in me,” said Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan.
DLGA’s Executive Director Roshan Patel said of the organization’s success this year and of the new leadership, “I would like to thank Lt. Governor Gilchrist for his strong support and leadership of this organization. 2021 saw two Lt. Governors ascend to be Governor of their respective states, Kathy Hochul in New York and Dan McKee in Rhode Island. We also welcomed two new Lt. Governors in Brian Benjamin (NY) and Sabina Matos (RI) who continue to add to the diversity and strength of this organization.
I am excited to welcome Lt. Governor Hall-Long as our Chair for 2022. Lt. Governor Hall-Long along with Lt. Governors Gilchrist and Tenorio and Secretary of State Fagan will set up this organization to be successful next November where we will be competing in 32 races all over the country.”
The DLGA is an independent voluntary political organization that provides resources and policy assistance to candidates in their campaigns for lieutenant governor. The DLGA is proud to support current Democratic Lieutenant Governors in 22 states and 3 U.S. territories.
