Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis Elected Chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association

MA Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll Elected DLGA Vice Chair, Outgoing Chair and MN Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to Serve on Executive Committee Alongside IL Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton

“I think we’re really representative of the party writ large, but also where the future of the Democratic Party needs to go,” Davis said.

WASHINGTON – Earlier this week, the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) voted to elect Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis as Chair of the DLGA. Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll was elected Vice Chair. Outgoing DLGA Chair and Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan will continue to serve on the executive committee alongside Illinois Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton.

Democratic lieutenant governors — which Davis called “the most diverse group of elected officials in the country” — could help to refill the party’s bench after a disappointing November.
Over the next two years, there will be over two dozen lieutenant governors elected across the country, some independently and some as part of a gubernatorial ticket.
Davis argued that while the contests are lower profile, they have a major impact on the party’s future. The DLGA membership is predominantly women or people of color, something Davis, who ran unopposed, said represents a strength of the organization.

“Democrats may have lost the election, but we haven’t lost our values,” Davis said in an interview. “We’re going to continue to fight for those things that are important to us and our constituents at large.”
“While the Democratic Party is at a crossroads, the DLGA has a tremendous opportunity to continue to invest and build up the next generations of leaders in our party,” Davis added.
PoliticsPA: Davis Elected Chair of Democratic Lt. Governors Association
“Democratic Lt. Governors serve as the second in command for more than half the country’s population. We serve as a partner to the governor, a link to our legislatures, and a channel to our communities, and delivering for our constituents needs to be the number one priority in order to rebuild the Democratic brand. Representation in our party is powerful, but when it comes to lived experiences, Democratic Lt. Governors truly are representative of the country.”

“The next few months that lie ahead for the Party will take a lot of work to regain voters’ trust and lay out an agenda that speaks directly to the country,” Davis said. “We will continue to deliver results for working Americans and will work as a backstop to the Trump administration’s extreme agenda.”
Massachusetts Playbook: Driscoll in the spotlight
Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll is stepping up on the national stage. Gov. Maura Healey’s No. 2 won a new role yesterday as vice chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association, one that’ll have her helping lead efforts to elect (you probably guessed it) Democratic lieutenant governors across the country in 2025.
The new gig puts Driscoll, who will serve alongside new DLGA Chair Lt. Gov. Austin Davis of Pennsylvania, in charge of building out the party’s bench at a crucial time for Democrats still reeling from a shellacking in last month’s elections.
That means the former Salem mayor will have some part in shaping the future direction of the party, as the DLGA looks to flip the lieutenant governor’s office in Virginia and win in New Jersey next year.
Driscoll’s early prescription for how Democrats should move forward: Act more like mayors.
