DLGA Statement on New Mexico Lieutenant Governor Nominee Stephanie Garcia Richard

WASHINGTON – Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) Executive Director Kevin Holst released the following statement on the selection of Stephanie Garcia Richard as the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico, joining gubernatorial nominee Deb Haaland on the ticket:

“Stephanie Garcia Richard has spent her career delivering real results for New Mexico families. As the first woman and first Latina elected Commissioner of Public Lands, she raised more than $15 billion for New Mexico’s public schools, grew renewable energy on state trust lands by more than 600%, and stood up to Trump’s attempts to fast-track drilling near sacred places like Chaco Canyon. A former teacher and chair of the House Education Committee, she has fought for New Mexico’s kids at every step. She knows how to make government work for working people.

“As Donald Trump works to rip away health care, drive up costs, and attack the freedoms New Mexicans count on, the state is the first line of defense – and Stephanie will be a true partner to Deb Haaland in that fight, working in lockstep to bring down the cost of groceries, housing, and health care, create good-paying jobs, and keep communities safe. The DLGA is proud to back Stephanie Garcia Richard as she and Deb Haaland advance this fall and bring their record of delivering for New Mexico to the Governor’s and Lieutenant Governor’s offices.”
