WASHINGTON, DC – Delaware Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay, Chair of the Democratic Lt. Governors Association (DLGA), released the following statement tonight on former Fergus Falls Mayor Ben Schierer being nominated as Minnesota’s DFL nominee for Lt. Governor, alongside gubernatorial nominee Amy Klobuchar:
“Ben Schierer has spent twenty years building up the community that raised him. He joined the Fergus Falls City Council in 2004, was elected mayor in 2016 and reelected in 2020, and in that time helped bring a downtown back to life and reconnect the city to its riverfront. Today, he leads economic development work across the region at the West Central Initiative.
“Minnesotans need that type of leadership as Donald Trump and Washington Republicans drive up costs and gut the programs small towns across the state depend on. Over the next four years, Ben and Amy Klobuchar will stand up to federal overreach, expand Minnesota’s economy, and create good-paying jobs in every corner of this state. As Lt. Governor, Ben would be the first Minnesotan from the Seventh Congressional District to hold statewide office in more than fifty years, and that is the perspective he will bring to his work every day.
